Bank of the West Shuffles Top Management

Bank of the West has changed up the responsibilities of some of its top management in effort to increase management focus on strategic areas like regional banking and wealth management.

Maura Markus, the president and chief operating officer, will manage the bank’s regional banking and wealth management businesses in addition to marketing and multichannel banking, Bank of the West, which is unit of BNP Paribas, said Monday. Prior to joining the San Francisco bank in 2010, she served as head of international retail banking in Citibank’s global consumer group.

Thibault Fulconis, Bank of the West’s chairman for finance and chief financial officer for its holding company, BancWest, will become vice chairman for commercial banking and consumer finance. He also will also retain responsibility for corporate development.

Fulconis has served in senior finance positions at Bank of the West and BNP Paribas since 1989. He was previously head of finance and development for the international retail and financial services group of BNP Paribas.

Duke Dayal, chief financial officer for Bank of the West, will become CFO for BancWest. He joined Bank of the West in 2010 from Brysam Global Partners, a New York private equity firm. He has more than 20 years of experience in global finance and was previously an executive with Citigroup (NYSE:C).

Markus, Fulconis and Dayal will report to Michael Shepherd, chairman and chief executive of the $62.4 billion-asset Bank of the West and BancWest. The changes were effective Wednesday.
