Just in time for the election, financial policy wonks without access to Facebook now have a resource for wasting precious work time. The election website for Reuters features an application letting you fill key economic positions in either an Obama or Romney administration.
The "Economic Dream Team" site includes two lists of D.C. heavyweights — one from the Democratic side and another representing the GOP — and users simply drag the candidate of their choice into one of four positions: Treasury secretary, National Economic Council Director, Federal Reserve Board chair and a "wildcard" open slot.
The twist is that each candidate gets a score of 1 to 5 in five different categories — budgeting, finance/markets, job creation, legislation and international — based on experience. The site tallies the scores to show which president's team comes out on top.
Prospective candidates include New York Fed President William Dudley, Treasury undersecretary Lael Brainard, PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi and former North Dakota Sen. Kent Conrad on the Democratic side.
Republican candidates include Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker, American Action Forum President Douglas Holtz-Eakin, GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt and former Labor Secretary Elaine Chao. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is listed on both sides.
