House Appropriations' Emerson Leaves Congress to Run NRECA

WASHINGTON — Rep. Jo Ann Emerson, a member of the House Appropriations Committee, is leaving Congress in February to head the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.

The Missouri Republican chairs the House Appropriation Committee's financial services and general government subcommittee, which writes budgets for the Treasury and many other financial regulatory agencies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The full committee voted in June to slash spending for fiscal year 2013 at the agencies under its jurisdiction by $376 million below the prior year's spending. The bill has not come up for a vote on the House floor.
