HSBC Picks Up Another Obama Administration Official

Another former Obama administration official is joining HSBC's legal team.

Preeta Bansal, the former general counsel and senior policy advisor at the Office of Management and Budget, is joining the bank's London office as global general counsel for litigation and regulatory affairs. Bansal, one of the administration's key policy advisors on financial regulatory reform, will report to Stuart Levey, who served as the first Treasury undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence from 2004 to 2011.

In August, the company also hired Bob Werner, a former head of both the Office of Foreign Assets Control and the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network in the Treasury Department, to serve as head of global standards assurance.

Bansal joined the White House in 2009 after five years at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in New York. The Harvard Law grad also worked at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and Arnold & Porter, and clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens.
