SWIFT's board has nominated Gottfried Leibbrandt, currently head of marketing, to replace Lázaro Campos as chief executive.

Campos, 49, notified the company in March that he intended to leave to pursue outside opportunities. He will remain with SWIFT until June 30, SWIFT said Monday. Campos has been with SWIFT for 25 years, including serving as CEO for the last five years.

"SWIFT is an extraordinary company with great people and I have enjoyed my years here immensely. I am proud of what SWIFT means to the industry and what we have achieved during my tenure as CEO," Campos said in a news release. "But after 25 years with one organization, it is the right time for me to move on and make an impact elsewhere."

Prior to joining SWIFT five years ago, Leibbrandt was a partner at McKinsey & Co.

SWIFT is a member-owned cooperative that provides the communications platform, products and services to connect more than 10,000 financial institutions in 210 countries.
