Former TCF Financial (TCF) chief executive Lynn Nagorske has died.
Nagorske, 56, spent 22 years with the Wayzata, Minn., company, serving as CEO from 2006 through his 2008 retirement. He died of cancer at his home on May 8, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported Wednesday.
Nagorske joined TCF in 1986 as senior vice president and controller. He was considered a protégé of William Cooper, who had joined the company as chairman and CEO a year earlier. Nagorske replaced Cooper as CEO in 2006 but retired from the company two years later. Cooper assumed the role again following Nagorske's retirement and has held the post since.
In a statement, Cooper said that Nagorske "was behind every TCF success over 22 years."
"While Lynn had a tremendous work ethic, he didn't mind partaking in a cold beer after work and sharing stories about his daughters, whom he treasured beyond words," said Cooper's statement, which was quoted in the Star Tribune.
Nagorske is survived by his wife, two daughters and one granddaughter.
