Gwen Santiago

Executive Director

Gwen has been involved in public education since 1967. She served as Chief Financial Officer for the Round Rock Independent School District for 23 years and as Chief Financial Officer for North East Independent School District in San Antonio for 7 years. She has managed budgets of more than $200 million. Her duties at North East ISD included responsibility for the Management Information Systems Department and the Human Resources Department, in addition to the financial responsibilities. She has served as Executive Director of TASBO since 1997. •She received her undergraduate degree and her MBA from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas. In addition to her current assignment as Executive Director of TASBO, she also served as President of the organization, and in 1994 was named Outstanding School Business Official for the State of Texas. In 2001 she was the recipient of the Distinguished MBA Award from St. Edward’s University. In 2006 Gwen earned the designation of Certified Association Executive (CAE), the highest professional credential in association management and in 2009, she was awarded the Distinguished Executive of the Year Award from the Texas Society of Association Executives (TSAE).In her current role, she is responsible for a staff of sixteen and the association has more than 5,500 members statewide. TASBO provides 200+ class days of training each year throughout the State of Texas and serves as a resource for school districts with regard to information regarding school finance, state funding, facilities management, technology, school nutrition, school transportation and government regulations. She has been involved in management reviews for school districts, Education Service Centers, and associations throughout the State of Texas.
