Jeff Langer is a nationally recognized consumer financial services, bank regulatory and privacy attorney with substantial in-house and management experience who recently joined the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in Washington, DC as Assistant Director, Installment Lending and Collections Markets.� Before joining the Bureau, Jeff served as Senior Counsel at Macy's, Inc., where he advised the credit card business. �He also was a partner at Jones Day and Dreher Langer & Tomkies.As Assistant Director, reporting to the Associate Director of the Office of Research, Markets and Regulations, Jeff leads the team that is the principal source of CFPB subject matter expertise for a range of installment lending markets, including student lending and auto lending, and debt collection markets. Jeff has extensive experience in FDCPA/Debt Collection, ECOA/Fair Lending, Truth in Lending, FCRA, UDAAP, TCPA, Electronic Fund Transfer, Prepaid Card, Debt Cancellation, Financial Privacy and Data Security, Telemarketing and E-Marketing, Anti-Money Laundering, Holding Company and other consumer financial services and banking law matters.He is a Past Chair of the American Bar Association Consumer Financial Services Committee (Business Law Section). �In addition, he is Treasurer and a Founding Fellow of the American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers, and also is a member of the Governing Committee of the Conference on Consumer Finance Law.�Jeff received his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law, where he was Notes and Comments Editor of the Northwestern Journal of International Law and Business, and a B.A. with highest distinction in History, Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
