11 More Mergers For CUs Of $5M In Assets Or Less

NCUA approved another 11 mergers last month involving credit unions of $5 million or less, making a total of 54 small credit unions that have disappeared through mergers so far this year.

There were 186 small credit unions merged out of existence last year. NCUA approved a total of 21 mergers in April, making 81 through the first four months of the year.

The biggest mergers approved last month were: Family Security CU, Decatur, Ala. ($200 million) with Steering FCU, Decatur, Ala. ($45 million); Treasury Department FCU, Washington, D.C., ($120 million) with U.S. Customs Service FCU, Washington, D.C. ($25 million); and Numerica CU, Spokane, Wash. ($375 million) with North Central CU, Wenatchee, Was. ($40 million).
