Accomplice-Turned-State's Witness JailedFor CU Heist

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - (05/05/05) -- An accomplice in a 2003 armedrobbery at Telco CU who agreed to testify against his partners inexchange for leniency was sentenced Tuesday to 11 years behind barsfor his role in the hold-up. Cedric Speight, 24, testified againstduring last week's trial against two of his accomplices, helpingconvict the two in the violent hold-up when one of the robberspistol-whipped a teller. The two, Scottie Whitaker, 26, and NathanPetway, 27, are scheduled to be sentenced in August. A fourthaccomplice, LaKendrick Fobbs, 28, the getaway car driver, wasconvicted last October and is serving a 17-year prisonsentence.
