Ala. CUs Campaign For Image

The Alabama CU League's CU-Vote subsidiary said it will launch a statewide campaign aimed at enhancing the credit union image amidst the state's ongoing financial crisis.

Wesley Emmons, director of CU-Vote, said the image campaign is aimed at increasing awareness of credit unions among the general public, but will also be geared towards discouraging any tax initiatives as the state continues to fight major budget deficits, which have prompted massive spending cuts for education, corrections and capital expenditures.

"Obviously, any time the state is facing a funding shortfall, it sounds off warning bells that you need to be prepared, as far as being seen as a potential revenue source," Emmons told The Credit Union Journal.

Plans call for a multi-faceted media campaign on radio, billboards and direct mailing. A budget has not been set yet, he said.
