Awards To Recognize Legislators For Efforts

CUNA has established a new program to recognize state lawmakers for their efforts to raise awareness and marshal resources on behalf of youth financial literacy. CUNA's State Credit Union Subcommittee said it will present the Desjardin Financial Literacy Award to state lawmakers as part of CUNA's Desjardins Award.

"This award is a substantive way for credit unions to show lawmakers how important this issue is to the credit union system," said Colleen Kelly, CUNA's vice president of state government affairs. Criteria include legislation to: require students to receive financial education in schools; require teachers to take financial literacy courses to qualify for accreditation; require schools to offer financial literacy classes; establish pilot programs or task forces to address youth financial education, and more. Nominations must be sent to CUNA's State Government Affairs Department by Sept. 15. For info: 202-508-6722 or ckelly@cuna.coop.
