RICHMOND, Va. - (08/16/05) -- State regulators have approved arequest from Newport News Shipbuilding Employees' CU for thelargest community charter in the state. The new charter will allowthe $900 million Newport News-based credit union to serve more than1.6 million people in the Virginia Beach area, including thecommunities of Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Virginia Beach,Portsmouth, Franklin, Williamsburg, Poquoson and Suffolk; as wellas the counties of Gloucester, Isle of Wight, James City,Southampton, Surry and York.
