Bid Would Raise The Bar On State'sFOM

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - (01/04/05) -- Northern Star CU has applied tostate regulators for what would be the broadest community field ofmembership ever grated a state chartered credit union in theCommonwealth. The $110 million credit union has requestedpermission to serve more than 1.4 million people in the areasurrounding Virginia Beach, including Hampton, Newport News,Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Suffolk and Virginia Beach. Thelargest FOM ever approved by the state's Bureau of FinancialInstitutions covers about 1.1 million people in the samecommunities, not including Virginia Beach.
