Bounced CU Checks Forces Resignation ByTraffic Court Judge

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - (07/14/05) -- The state Supreme Court said it hasaccepted the resignation of a magistrate on the state traffic courtafter it was disclosed she bounced 173 checks on her account atRhode Island State Employees CU and defied a court order tocomplete 20 hours of ethics courses. The magistrate, Auredina'Dina' Veiga, has a long history of financial problems, whichincluded unpaid taxes and the foreclosure on her home, authoritiessaid. Records show Veiga bounced 173 checks on her credit unionaccount during a 27-month period and used her court sheriff and anEast Providence police captain to cash checks for her.
