LAUREL, Md. - (05/24/05) -- A team of at least four burglarsdrove a stolen flatbed truck up the local Food Lion supermarketearly last Thursday morning, then smashed through the brickstorefront before using chains affixed to the stolen vehicle toyank a Library of Congress FCU ATM out of the store and onto thesidewalk. But the hapless thieves apparently hadn't figured out away to lift the 500-pound machine onto the truck, forcing them toabandon their efforts when a patrolling police cruiser rode by,according to one witness to the botched crime. The would-be thievesthen abandoned the flatbed and piled into a van and fled, accordingto police.
