Bystanders Chase Floating Cash

An itinerant robber was arrested last week in connection with a hold-up at Great Falls CU, which went awry when thousands of dollars in cash floated from the thief's grips into the gathering breeze.

Jeffrey Hall, 39, was arrested at Motel 6 in nearby Lewiston with a bag of cash, allegedly taken from the credit union. The remainder of the loot was lost as a robber believed to be Hall fled the credit union, only to lose his grip, sending dozens of onlookers scurrying for the airborne bills. Detectives said Hall fled Maine last year after allegedly robbing a bank in Gorham with three accomplices, then returned to the state just prior to the Great Falls CU heist.

Bystanders helped police gather the scattered cash after the incident and into last weekend.
