CAFCU Runs XP2 On IBM POWER5

XP Systems, a unit of Fiserv, Inc., said that Corporate America Family Credit Union of Elgin, Ill., has become the first client to run the XP2system on IBM POWER5 server technology, an upgrade from its IBM RS/6000 hardware platform. Two additional credit unions have installed IBM POWER5 systems, with eight to follow by the end of January, according to XP Systems. Corporate America Family CU now runs its XP2 core information management system on an IBM eServer P5 570-4, in combination with DB2 Universal Database.

"Our previous machine met our needs and outlasted the timeframe we had budgeted for it; however, the IBM POWER5 has given us a five-fold increase in back-office processing speeds, taking tasks like full system backups down from a couple hours to minutes," said says Pete Paulson, EVP with Corporate America Family CU.

IBM recently reported that an IBM POWER5 processor-based IBM eServer P5 595, running DB2 Universal Database, soared past the barrier of three-million transactions per minute and set a new world record for computing speed.
