Congressional Leaders Get CUNA Largesse

CUNA said it made $100,000 in political contributions last month, much of it targeted towards congressional leaders, just as lawmakers consider a flurry of new credit union-related bills.

Among the recipients were: House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-IL), $5,000; House Judiciary Chairman James Sensenbrenner, (R-WI), $1,000; and leadership PACs for Reps. Tom Davis (R-VA), head of the Republican Congressional Campaign Committee, $5,000; House Whip Roy Blunt (R-MO), $5,000; Republican Conference Chairwoman Deborah Pryce (R-OH), $2,000 and Steny Hoyer (D-MD), Minority Whip, $1,000. Also Reps. Brad Sherman (D-CA) and Ed Royce (R-CA), chief sponsors of major credit union bills, received $5,000 and $2,000, respectively.

CUNA also contributed $5,000 to Doris Matsui, who is running to succeed her husband Robert Matsui (D-CA), who died last month. CUNA's PAC raised $81,000 last month and ended with $412,000 of cash on hand.
