Cops To Robbers: Where's The Stolen CULoot?

ST. LOUIS - (03/16/05) -- Law enforcement agencies havetallied up more than $1.4 million in cash robbed by a local gangfrom six credit unions and three banks in one of the nation'sbiggest robbery conspiracies but have yet to recover any of thecash. And they don't expect to, either. "We think it was spent,"U.S. Attorney James Martin, told The Credit Union Journal Tuesday."There's no indication it was anything but spent." The money wastaken during hold-ups at several area institutions, including twoof the biggest credit union heists ever, both at St. LouisCommunity CU, when $266,293 and $211,590 was stolen. The creditunion was targeted because the ringleader owned a security firmwhich provided guards at the credit union, and the gang used theguards' keys to enter the credit union. As many as five of theeight alleged conspirators were in custody Tuesday, while the otherthree were still at-large, according to Martin.
