CUNA Names Winners of Dora Maxwell, Louise Herring Awards

Chosen from a list of 174 state-level winners, CUNA has named the national winners of the 2005 Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility and Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Awards awards.

First place winners of the Dora Maxwell Award include: Tri Valley Community FCU, East Helena, Mont.; Kekaha FCU, Kekaha, Hawaii; Evansville FCU, Evansville, Ind.; La-Porter FCU, Michigan City, Ind.; Yakima Valley CU, Yakima, Wash.; American Heritage FCU, Philadelphia; America First FCU, Riverdale, Utah; Austin Chapter of Credit Unions, Texas.

Winners of the Louise Herring Award were Oxford FCU in Mexico, Maine, and Yakima Valley CU.

The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Recognition Award is awarded to credit unions, based on seven asset-size categories, and chapters for outstanding social responsibility projects in the community in which it is located. The Louise Herring Award for Philosophy in Action is given to a credit union demonstrating the internal application of credit union philosophy to help better financial matters and increase financial education for its members.

Award winners will be honored at a reception during CUNA's 2006 Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) in Feb. 26-March 1, in Washington, D.C.
