CUNA said its political action committee raised $147,000 last month and spent $138,233, helping it to build its available cash to $355,000, a high for this campaign cycle.

The leading credit union PAC topped the $1 million mark in funds raised last month, the earliest it has done so, while spending just over $1 million, about $700,000 of it on campaign contributions to individuals and the two political parties. With 15 months still to go in the two-year election cycle, CUNA is expected to set new highs for both funds raised and spent in the 2003-2004 elections.

The biggest campaign contributions last month went to: Reps. Tom Cole (R-OK), $5,000; Phil Gingrey, (R-GA), $4,000; Max Burns (R-GA), $2,500; Earl Pomeroy (D-ND), $3,000; Allen Boyd (D-FL), $3,000; John Doolittle (R-CA), $2,500; and Bill Thomas (R-CA), 2,500. CUNA also made $2,000 contributions to: Reps. Pat Tiberi (R-OH), Nita Lowey (D-NY), Phil Crane (R-IL), Jim McCrery (R-LA), Bill Tauzin (R-LA), Robin Hayes (R-NC), David Drier (R-CA), and former Rep. John Linder (R-GA), vying to return to Congress.
