CUs Cut Back On Health Insurance Benefits

The number of CUs paying 100% of employee medical coverage costs has decreased by nearly 17% in the last two years, according to a survey on employee health benefits by D.Hilton Associates. Currently only 18% of credit unions pick up the full amount, the company said. "The shift in cost sharing is further reflected in an increase of the in-network deductible amount that employees and families must pay," said D. Hilton. "The percentage of credit union employees with a deductible of $1,000 or more has climbed to 12%, up from zero just two years ago. This trend remains consistent for family in-network deductibles, with the largest increase (19%) found in the $1,000-or-more deductible range." The survey is based on credit unions of at least $10 million in assets.
