Former Football Star Convicted Of CURobbery

COLUMBIA, S.C. - (04/20/06) -- A former star football player wasfound guilty Wednesday of armed robbery in last February’shold-up at South Carolina State CU. Former South Carolinalinebacker Marco Hutchinson, a prep star at Northwestern HighSchool in Rock Hill, and at the University of South Carolina from1997 to 2000, faces up to 25 years in prison when he is sentenced.The 27-year-old robbed a branch of the credit union on Feb. 23,2005, brandishing what turned out to be a toy gun and jumping overthe teller counter, then taking $6,585 from the cash drawer. Onewitness saw Hutchinson stuff money into U.S. priority mail boxes,then followed Hutchinson to a post office where he dropped theminto a mail drop box. The packages, according to testimony, wereaddressed to Hutchinson's family, friends and himself.
