Former Wichita Falls CU Teller Jailed in Skimming Scheme

WICHITA FALLS - A former teller at Wichita Falls Teachers FCU was sentenced Friday to 27 months in prison and ordered to pay $325,000 in restitution for a multi-year scheme to steal cash from the credit union’s vaults. Amy Henry Berend was given the maximum sentence and was ordered to report immediately to federal prison. The cash shortage was discovered by the credit union during an audit. Berend concealed the cash shortage by falsifying credit union documents to overstate the amount of funds in the cash dispenser, by posting cash transactions late to make the shortage in the vault appear less than the actual shortage, and by indicating that funds had been transferred to an ATM.
