Foundation Funding Credited For HelpingAdd 4,000 New Members

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - (07/27/04) -- Over the past 18 months, the use offunding from the Ford Foundation and the U.S. Treasury Departmenthas helped four California credit unions to add more than 4,000people who previously had no relationship with a financialinstitution. According to the California league, most of thoseadded were Latino and low-income. Arrowhead Credit Union, SanBernardino; Coast Hills Credit Union, Lompoc; SCE Federal CreditUnion, Irwindale; and Water and Power Community Credit Union, LosAngeles, have also reached more than 7,800 primarily low-incomeCalifornians through workshops, community events, and one-on-onefinancial counseling sessions presented in English and Spanish, theleague reported.
