Fraud Suspect Captured After High-SpeedCollision

WINCHESTER, Ind. - (05/05/05) -- A suspect who allegedly tried toopen a credit union account with stolen checks was rushed to thehospital by helicopter Monday after he tried to allude policeduring a high-speed chase. The suspect, identified as StevenHuffman, 38, of Montpelier, crashed head-on into a tree, sufferingserious injuries, during a police chase that reached 90 miles andhour. The chase began after police received information thatHuffman had tried to use stolen checks to open fraudulent accountsat AHE Plant No 3 FCU. Police said they later discovered thatHuffman was wanted on felony warrants out of Indiana, Ohio andMichigan.
