Ga. CU Pledges $500K To Effort

The $744-million Robins FCU here said it is pledging up to $500,000 to support efforts to keep local Robins Air Force Base open. The base has been included on the list of bases to be closed according to the 21st Century Partnership's base realignment and closure (BRAC) 2005 action plan. Robins Federal, which is headed by former CUNA Chairman Buck Levins, said the funds it has pledged are to match funds raised by other sources and that its offer will be good through June of 2004. A local group of small business owners, the Warner Robins Industry Now Group (WRING), is leading the fundraising effort. Since 1988 more than 450 military installations have closed.
