Hollywood CU Members Make Oscar Predictions

Members of the Academy of Motion Pictures may have to wait to cast their ballots for this year's Oscars, but not so members of First Entertainment CU.

Members of Hollywood's credit union made their choices last month in an online ballot, choosing "Lord of the Rings" as best picture; Johnny Depp, as best actor; Charlize Theron, as best actress; and Peter Jackson, as best director.

"Members of First Entertainment are the people who make the Academy Awards possible because they are the make-up artists, camera operators, lighting experts, costumers and others whose work you see on screen," said Charles Bruen, president of the $465-million credit union. "Our members are the real industry insiders, so they have special insight when it comes to the Academy Awards."

The winners chosen by the credit union's 55,000 members: Best Actor: Johnny Depp ("Pirates of the Caribbean"); Best Actress: Charlize Theron ("Monster"); Best Director: Peter Jackson ("Lord of the Rings"); Best Film Editing: Lord of the Rings; Best Make-Up: Pirates of the Caribbean; Cinematography: Seabiscuit; Supporting Actor: Tim Robbins ("Mystic River"); and Supporting Actress: Renee Zellweger ("Cold Mountain").
