TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - (08/25/04) -- The Florida CU League said its CUFoundation has collected $33,700 to aid victims of HurricaneCharley. That includes 19 credit union employees and volunteers whohave donated $500 each. The Florida league said requests for fundsare arriving daily and it is working on ways to distribute thefunds. Among those whom it is seeking to help is an employee ofVista FCU who is a single mother of four whose home wassignificantly damaged. Vista FCU, which has 45,000 members in thecentral Florida areas hit hard by Hurricane Charley, has activatedits Member Assistance Program (MAP). Members who were affected bythe hurricane are being offered low-interest loans and loan paymentdeferrals. To qualify members may have to provide some information,including proof of damage, insurance claims, contractor bids andphysical inspections.
