IBM Extends Into Check 21

ARMONK, N.Y. - (05/23/06) – IBM Corp., already part ownerof the Viewpointe Exchange Network, announced Monday it hasexpanded its interests in the market for Check 21 solutions with adeal to offer a solution for the remote capture and deposit ofchecks. Under the deal, IBM said it has licensed software fromCarreker Corp. which it will use with its Payments Directorend-to-end payments solution, allowing credit unions and banks todigitize checks sooner. Users will be able to scan checks in theirbranches and offer business clients the ability to scan and depositchecks in their own offices, eliminating the need to travel to acredit union or bank branch. Viewpointe Exchange, one of fournational electronic check networks, announced Friday it hadreceived a contract from the Federal Reserve to provide check imageservices at the Fed’s 12 regional banks, the nation’sleading check processing system. Viewpointe is owned by IBM, JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, SunTrust Banks and U.S.Bancorp.
