Indiana's CUs Urged To Become More Active

Credit unions meeting here for the Indiana league's annual meeting heard a special emphasis on becoming politically involved.

Among those emphasizing the need for being active was new CUNA Chairman Juri Valdov, who offered his first remarks since being elected, and ICUL President John McKenzie.

Both discussed the need to protect the federal tax exemption, and urged CUs to support HR 2317, the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act (CURIA).

"There is room for everyone at the table of political involvement," McKenzie said.

U.S. Rep. Mike Sodrel, a CURIA co-sponsor, also attended the Convention and was presented with the 2005 Outstanding Hoosier Legislator Award from the League. In addition, Gary Irvin, CEO of FORUM Credit Union, was inducted into the Indiana Hall of Fame.
