Japanese Execs Visit U.S. CUs

Representatives from the Maine Credit Union League and two affiliated CU hosted two representatives from Japan's largest cooperative financial institution for agriculture, the $400-billion Norinchukin Bank.

"Credit unions have been able to succeed by carving out a distinct niche in the market and providing excellent services to members," said Arihiro Muroya, chief economist of the Finance & Investment Research Division.

"What we have seen from the Maine Credit Union League and the two credit unions we visited, University Credit Union in Portland and Five County Credit Union in Falmouth, will enable us to reach out and better serve the Japanese people."

The two Japanese visitors visited several credit unions in Oregon, as well, before returning to Japan.
