Latino Credit Union NetworkForming

WASHINGTON - (07/12/06)–An organization to promoteLatinos in the credit union movement, promote understanding ofLatinos’ financial needs and strengthen bonds with the creditunion system is being formed. The Network of Latino Credit Unionsand Professionals, (NLCUP) is moving beyond the planning stages toincorporation and finalizing its mission and objectives, saidCarlos Calderon, CEO of OAS Staff FCU, a long-time advocate forincreased Latino representation and participation in the CUmovement. Others involved include Maurice CalderÓn, SeniorVice-President of Arrowhead CU, San Bernardino, Calif.; CarlaDecker, CEO of District Government Employees FCU, Washington; PabloDeFilippi, board member of the Lower East Side People’s FCU,New York; Miriam Fernandez, vice president of operations and CFO ofBethex FCU, Bronx, N.Y.; Larry Garcia, CEO of the El PasoAffordable Housing CUSO, El Paso, Texas; Maria Martinez, CEO ofBorder FCU, Del Rio, Texas; Luis Pastor, CEO of Latino CommunityCU, Durham, N.C.; Raul Picket, CEO of El Futuro CU, Porterville,Calif.; Rafael Morales, Communications Officer for the NationalFederation of Community Development Credit Unions, and others. ANLCUP working group presented its ideas to a larger audience duringthe Federation’s recent 4th Latino CU Conference and 32ndAnnual Meeting (June 7-10 in Durham, N.C.).
