Many CU Branches Remain Without Power;Some Operating Without A/C

FT. MYERS, Fla. - (08/19/04) Five days after Hurricane Charleypassed through Florida Lee County Mosquito Control Credit Unionremains without power. Also without power is the Winter Havenbranch of Community First Credit Union, where its sign suffered adirect hit from lightning. At MidFlorida Credit Union, fivebranches are operating on limited hours as the result of usinggenerators for power. In Orlando, two of Central Florida EducatorsCU’s branches, which suffered some roof damage, remainwithout electricity, while the main office of Central FloridaHealthCare FCU is operating on half-power. Orlando FCU is hoping tohave power restored today. For many credit unions, such as FRSA CU,using generators for electricity means no air conditioning inFlorida’s heat and humidity. McCoy FCU in Orlando reportedone branch remained down due to computer problems. Along Florida'sEast Coast, Space Coast CU has two branches withoutelectricity.
