PURCHASE, N. Y. - (04/10/06) – MasterCard International saidlast week is will test software that will allow its cardholders todownload information that will turn a cell phone into a contactlesspayment card. The software will allow cardholders to contact theircredit union or bank to activate the phone’s payment chipremotely. The issuers could let the cardholders do so over theirweb sites or by phone. MasterCard said the process would beinstantaneous and be comparable to the way customers activate theircredit cards. The system would support only MasterCard products,like PayPass.
