Merrimack Valley FCU To Anchor MillRenovation

LAWRENCE, Mass. - (02/07/06) -- Merrimack Valley FCU broke groundMonday on its new headquarters in an abandoned mill building on thebanks of the Merrimack River, the anchor of a redevelopment of themassive complex. The $400 million credit union has purchased 40,000square feet at the dilapidated mills, long a symbol of blight inthis once glorious mill city north of Boston. Developers, who werejoined by Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey, Congressman Martin Meehan, andstate lawmakers for a ceremony yesterday, hope the creditunion¡¦s interest will attract more tenants to theproject. After moving from nearby North Andover, Merrimack ValleyFCU will become the largest financial institution based inLawrence.
