Missouri Delegation Visits With Barbados' Co-ops

Representatives of the Missouri Credit Union Association met with their counterparts from the Barbados Cooperative and Credit Union League (BCCUL) during the latter's annual meeting. It was the first step in Missouri's recently formed International Partnership with the World Council of Credit Unions and BCCUL. The program aims to promote mutual growth and a knowledge exchange between U.S. credit union associations and those of developing nations.

MCUA President/CEO Rosie Holub, MCUA Board Chairman Hal James and MCUA Senior Vice President of Credit Union Development Don Cohenour traveled to the island with World Council Program Specialist Victor Corro.

"It was an opportunity for us to learn more about league and credit union operations in Barbados," says Holub. "We visited the league and several credit unions to determine how we can mutually benefit from our relationship."

During the course of the week, the Missouri delegation met with Barbados league staff; attended the annual meeting of Barbados' largest credit union, Barbados Public Workers' Cooperative Credit Union, made several visits to Barbadian credit unions and branches, and signed the official partnership program agreement.

Cohenour gave a presentation on asset-liability management at a Barbados league-sponsored educational session to board members from approximately 12 credit unions.
