Mother Pleads Guilty To CUHeist

CORTEZ, Colo. - (04/12/06) - A-62-year-old woman who allegedlyrobbed Southwest Colorado FCU with her daughter last May, pleadedguilty Monday to the incident in which $105,245 was stolen. Inexchange for her guilty plea to class 3 felony theft, charges ofconspiracy to commit theft and theft receiving more than $15,000against Sharon Vaughn were dropped. Vaughn's daughter, DanjaVaughn, is scheduled to stand trial on similar charges next month.Both Vaughns were arrested after they tried to commit suicide,following a search of their home when $85,494 of the credit unionloot was discovered by police. The mother and daughter became primesuspects in the case after Sharon Vaughn paid a $20,000 debt to herlandlord in $20 bills. After the landlord deposited the money inher bank, the bank called police. Both the mother and daughter werealso found guilty last month of stealing horses in Utah and Kansasin 2002 and 2004 to run their horse breeding business.
