NCUF Provides $25,000 Grant

MADISON, Wis. - The National Credit Union Foundation has given a $25,000 grant to the Network of Latino Credit Unions and Professionals (NLCUP) to help launch a national savings campaign for Hispanics. NLCUP was incorporated in April 2006 with support from the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions (NFCDCU) and organizers presented plans to attendees at the Latino Credit Union Conference in Durham last summer. The money will help to hire a campaign coordinator.

"Hispanic America Saves" will be an affiliate of the Consumer Federation of America's "America Saves" campaign and is modeled after the "El Paso Saves" program of the El Paso Affordable Housing CUSO. NLCUP organizer Carlos Calderon, CEO of OAS FCU told the CU Journal the formal agreement would be signed during the CUNA GAC.
