New CU Seeded In Hawai

KAPOLEI, Ha. - (03/27/06) -- More than 50 native Hawaiian groupshave raised $1.1 million in deposit pledges to form their owncredit union, which would be the first credit union chartered inthe state in more than five years. The group, tentatively calledthe Prince Kuhio FCU, is aiming to raise about $3 million inpledges before submitting its application to NCUA. The proposedfield of membership would include the Association of Hawaiian CivicClubs, comprised of 51 groups representing indigeneous people ofPolynesian ancestry, and the Hawaiian Home Lands trust.
