DALLAS - (0/14/04) -- Credit Union of Texas will starttesting IBM's new DB2 Universal Database 8.2 software, code-namedStinger, which features self-monitoring and self-tuning functions.The new functionality includes a tool called Design Advisor thatcan automatically design and optimize the structure of a database,as well as a related utility that automates administrative tasks,such as table maintenance and data backup. IBM says the tools willlet database administrators complete complex tasks up to seventimes faster than they can now. The new software will also letend-user PCs automatically fail to a backup database if the mainserver goes down. Officials at the $1.6 billion credit union expectthe new software to speed database configuration. The creditunion's data warehouse is currently built on IBM's DB28.1.
