New Twist: CU Employees Hit By IdentityTheft

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - (12/12/05) -- Officials at Oregon Community CUwere warning of an identity theft scheme last week--but this onewas a little different than most in that the victims were thecredit union's employees. Police said they discovered inside astolen car they recovered last week a package of insurance formsthat contained private information on the credit union's 200employees. The information included names, Social Security numbersand addresses. At least of the identities has been tried, so far,police said. The credit union immediately alerted the employees andpurchased extended identity theft insurance. Credit union officialssaid the incident has been limited to employees and no membersappear affected.
