ROME, N.Y. - (01/09/06) AmeriCU CU has applied to stateregulators for one of the broadest community charters in the EmpireState, a mix of community and underserved areas in central NewYork. The application submitted to the Department of Banking wouldallow the $450 million credit union to serve more than a millionpeople in the counties of Cayuga, Madison, Onondaga and Oswego, andmore than a dozen underserved communities in Oneida Countysurrounding its home of Rome. The combination of community charterand underserved field of membership is the same one beingchallenged on the federal level by the American Bankers Associationin a new lawsuit filed in federal court in Utah.
