Northeast CU Celebrates 70Years

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. - (07/20/06) – Northeast CU will celebrate its70th birthday and mark the $5 million renovation of its main branchThursday with a two-hour event featuring remarks from PortsmouthMayor Steve Marchand. The credit union, chartered in June 1936 asthe Portsmouth U.S. Employees (No. 1515) FCU, was founded by 10local men who contributed $5 each, for total capital of $50. Today,Northeast CU is the state’s third largest credit union with$480 million in assets and more than 46,000 members.
