Okla. CUs Plan Shared Branches

Oklahoma's credit unions plan to significantly expand shared branches in the state. Oklahoma league spokesperson Lisa Finley said over- competitive issues had stymied expansion of shared facilities in Oklahoma beyond the six stand alone facilities that are part of Credit Union Service Centers (CUSC).

"We've talked through the competitive issues and credit unions now see it as a way to serve more members," she said, noting one stumbling block has been fears that some credit unions would solicit members of other credit unions who come in to use the shared branch.

CUSC prohibits such solicitations. With Tinker CU opening the first shared facility, Finley said plans now are to site 10 facilities in other credit unions over the next year.
