Members Come To Rescue Of Victim

FAIRFIELD, Calif.-Members of Travis CU helped turn a dream-turned-nightmare back into a dream last week for a fellow member who was robbed of her savings after withdrawing the funds from the credit union. The $1,200 raised by members of the credit union, combined with two private donations, will help reimburse Linda Reid for the $2,800 stolen from her on the way to buy a small business-a hot dog stand. Reid was assaulted and robbed a short while after withdrawing $4,800 in cash from her husband's retirement account at the credit union, losing $2,700 of the funds (she was able to retrieve the rest) saved up for the new business. The members' charity helped Reid to buy the hot dog stand she had her heart set on. Police are still searching for her assailant.

Surprise: Home Sales Strong During June

WASHINGTON-Mortgage rates are ticking up, which may be one big reason sales of previously occupied homes remained hot during June. Sales unexpectedly rose to a record 6.95 million annual pace in June, and in the process have pushed prices to their highest ever. Existing home purchases increased 2.1% from a 6.81 million-unit rate in May, the National Association of Realtors said. The median selling price rose 5.2% to a record $191,800. Analysts are crediting the still relatively low interest rates with more people holding jobs as the drivers for the ongoing surge in home sales. Home sales this year are expected to surpass the record set in 2003.
