One-Third In Poll Consider Themselves Good With Debt

A recent survey of 1,000 adults by MasterCard regarding consumers and financial management has found:

* On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the "best possible job," 32% give themselves a 10 when it comes to managing their debt. Females are more confident than males with 33% giving themselves a 10. Thirty percent of males gave themselves a perfect score.

* 22% of males say they precisely know their own debt situation to the penny, while 16% of females make that claim.

* 27% of Americans (31% of men, 24% of women) say they have used a credit card to help track their spending.

* 16% of Americans say they have sought professional advice at some point in their lives to pay off debt.

The survey, a nationally representative telephone poll that included 1,044 adults, was conducted by Opinion Research Corporation in September 2005.
