Parkway Named After Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union

Talk about having a road that leads right to your door.

As part of its way of saying thank you to Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union for bringing 300 new jobs to its city, officials renamed the thoroughfare that leads to its headquarters "Randolph Brooks Parkway."

The Texas Department of Transportation erected the new signage last month along eastbound Loop 1604, near the Intersection of Interstate Highway 35. These signs that announce "Randolph Brooks" now guide the way to RBFCU's new Creswell Administrative Service Center.

"These signs eliminate confusion for our members and vendors and show what can be accomplished with public-private partnerships," said Randy M. Smith, CEO of RBFCU. "Our road and building now serve as landmarks for the booming northeast community."

CU officials said they were proud to be recognized in this fashion by the community they have served for the last two decades. RBFCU with $2.5 billion in assets, was founded in 1952 as a not-for-profit cooperative on Randolph Air Force Base.

It is now one of the nation's top CUs in the nation, serving 239,000 members from 22 locations and three in-school branches throughout South Central Texas.

RBFCU invested $15 million and began construction on its new headquarters in this San Antonio suburb in 2002. The 113,000-square-foot building on 20 acres replaces a 46,000-square-foot building in nearby San Antonio. It officially opened its doors in May of 2004 and houses some 350 employees and administrative personnel that previously worked at six separate locations. An additional 200 employees work at branch locations.

John Kelly, SVP of Planning and Marketing at RBFCU, said the new building was a result of "explosive growth" over the last decade. It was named to honor Walter Creswell, Jr., who has served on the CU board of directors for 24 years. Room dedications were made to other individuals who helped guide the CU throughout its history.
