SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - (12/07/05) -- Authorities are warning of a newfinancial fraud making the rounds in which phony San Mateo CUchecks are being distributed that claim to represent lotterywinnings that can be claimed by calling a number with a 905 areacode. Callers to the number, which has been traced to Canada, areasked to send personal account information or funds to claim their'winnings,' according to the consumer affairs office of thedistrict attorney.
